Cardi B is giving back to the Bronx school she attended as a child.
As part of New York’s Community Capacity Development program, the rapper stopped by her old Morris Heights neighbourhood, surprising students with an empowering speech about the importance of education and pledging $100,000 to support the school.
In videos shared on social media, Cardi can be heard telling the kids how proud she is to be from the Bronx and feels a sense of loyalty to helping people there:
“Like how are people surviving? I want to know. My family and my friends, they’re so grateful to have me, but it’s just like, what happens to people who don’t have a me?”
She also encouraged the kids to really think about their futures:
“The decisions that you make now are very pivotal…. Before you make that one bad decision, ’cause that one bad decision could change your life for the rest of your life, make sure you remember, where do you want to be a couple years from now? Whether you’re 14, or 15 or 18 or 21. Make sure you think long term.”
The Grammy-winning performer has also visited schools in Queens and Brooklyn over the last few days, sharing the same uplifting messages:
Both visits to 696 Build Queenbridge and @CAMBAInc were truly beautiful moments. @iamcardib spoke authentically to these beautiful young ladies on the power of an education and tenacious pursuing their dreams. This moment was iconic and we are so thankful! pic.twitter.com/j4cTUx1vHh
